I changed my WinXP OS from one old computer to another because the original was failing.
I obtained the chipset drivers and a couple other drivers from the Dell website but there is nothing about the ethernet controller.
The Vostro computer is from an office that updated it hardware. It worked ok there but was just obsolute. I did not want their system so I deleted the disk partition, made two partitions (system and my stuff), then installed WinXP. The computer is only for running some old software that works well under XP.

The drivers for this device were not installed (code 28)
Snce it is not installed, the OS does not identify the controller. The Dell user manual does not identify the MB or much of anything else technical.
I booted Ubuntu from an install CD (without installing, of course). It activated the ethernet controller just fine, which I verified by visiting a number of websites.
Maybe the Linux system can identify the controller but I don'tknow enough about Linux to begin looking for it.
The online instructions I've found for getting a driver all start with the brand, etc. of the ethernet controller.
Is there a way to get a driver for this?
