Shield Controller on PC Issue

Trying to get my shield controller, the newest model, to work with the PC. I have unpaired it from the Nvidia Shield, I have a nvidia graphics card, and I have GeForce Experience installed with the latest drivers. When I plug it into the PC the controller vibrates and nothing else happens. If I tap a button on the controller the blue lights starts blinking. If I go to control panel and try to add a device it shows up but then it asks me for a passcode and pairing fails.

Is there anything else I need to do to get it to work?

NVIDIA devices are generally compatible with Google's Android drivers, except that Google drivers will not have the additional device identifiers for automatic recognition. Instead, you will need to apply drivers manually through the Device Manager in your operating system's Control Panel.

To install drivers, do the following:
